BMT Fluid Mechanics is internationally recognized as a leading independent specialist in the fields of wind engineering and computational modelling for the civil construction and the offshore industries. With headquarters in London and offices in the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Malaysia and the U.S.A., BMT provides wind engineering services drawing upon in-house capabilities from wind tunnel testing and computational modelling. BMT has substantial in-house facilities for state-of-the-art small scale physical modelling of atmospheric wind flows around civil structures. The company currently operates 2 major in-house wind tunnel facilities: a large boundary layer wind tunnel with a test section 4.8m wide x 2.4m high x 15m long and a top test speed of 45 m/s, and an aeronautical tunnel (exclusively used for section model tests) with a test section 2.7m wide x 2.1m high and a top test speed of 65 m/s. These facilities are backed up by state-of-the-art instrumentation for a wide range of applications and measurement techniques. In addition, the Company maintains a high-capacity, high-throughput computer cluster for carrying out Computational Fluid Dynamics and advanced flow simulations. BMT’s experience with the aerodynamics of long-span bridges extends back over 70 years to the pioneering work on the development of the UK’s first major suspension bridges. Long-span bridge projects have included Tsing Ma Bridge (Hong Kong), Second Severn Crossing (UK), Stonecutters Bridge (Hong Kong), Messina Bridge (Italy), Queensferry Crossing (UK) and Ozman Gazi Bridge (Turkey). Footbridge projects have included Stirling Footbridge (UK), Peace Footbridge (UK), Centre Street Footbridge (USA) and Tank Street Footbridge (Australia).
